WHY WE NEED
STAND BY
As cryonics grows in the UK we have a
golden opportunity to improve our chances of future revival.
There is no need for these improvements to
cost a fortune because a great deal of the equipment needed is already at hand.
I believe the time is right to take
another leap forward but it will require your backing in time and effort.
Before I go any further putting together
a suggested improvement program I would like your suggestions, because unless
the majority think it is worth while there is little point in going further.
The explanation in the below is
very simplistic but gives a broad outline of why I think we need a trained Stand
By Team.
For the newer members, don’t get stand
by mixed up with the suspension , Stand by is to make sure the patient is in a
condition that allows a better suspension to take place.

What do we mean by
Stand By

To be with the patient at the point of legal death, so everything can be
done to enable
a better suspension.

Why not leave it to the professionals, such as Funeral Directors

Even if medical professional's or any other group such as undertakers were
prepared to buy the equipment and have the training, the cost would be
prohibitive.
It is extremely difficult to convey the importance of cooling
NOW and not when the tea break is over. it is even more difficult motivate
anyone other than another cryonacist.

What need’s to be done

This will change as our knowledge progresses but I think it is important in the
beginning to have a list of priorities.
Cooling is excepted as being No1 and this can be greatly
improved with the aid of a cool down bath, HLR (thumper), squid. being able to
perform these duties wherever required .
i.e At home,
Hospital, Nursing Home or in our
specially fitted Response unit which can be taken anywhere by anybody with a Tow
Bar.
We are a none prejudiced group, it makes no difference whether
it be CI or Alcor, we are all after the same result and we need to pull together.
It is easy to sign up to Cryonics then sit back and do nothing
hoping that you will get the best suspension when the time comes. This may be
the case, but to improve your chances you have to help your self. Make sure as
many people as possible now your wishes, Doctor, friends, work colleagues,
Family etc. Make sure you have a will and your contract and founding are in
order.
